Strategic Financial Leadership Programme

The Strategic Financial Leadership Programme is the product of a unique collaboration between the Department of Health, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and Monitor.  It has been created to address the challenges facing finance directors in the modern NHS and will help develop their skills by focusing on leading-edge developments in the world of finance and management.

Next available course dates:

  • 27 September – 1 October, and 8 – 12 October 2010
  • 1 – 5 November, and 22 – 26 November 2010

The tailored two-week course is delivered by Cass Business School, an institution with an international reputation for first-class business education.

Split over two five-day blocks, the programme covers a range of subjects pertinent to any finance director working in the NHS, including:

  • Corporate governance and business risk management
  • Strategy and change management
  • Economics of health and demand management
  • Negotiation skills
  • Business development processes
  • Business intelligence
  • Modern treasury management and capital budgeting
  • Service line management

The course is open to finance leaders from NHS foundation trusts, NHS trusts, primary care trusts and strategic health authorities. Monitor considers it highly advantageous for finance directors of aspirant foundation trusts to have attended the course pre-assessment.
